When our family came to New York, we came with almost nothing but hope. Our mother made that hope feel like more than enough. Seven days a week, without fail, she and our father worked tirelessly — covering rent, college fees, school supplies, and still finding ways to care for siblings and cousins back home. She did it all without complaint. Without hesitation. Without asking for a single thing in return.
We are the youngest — twin brothers, the last born. Growing up, we watched our mother carry everything: the weight of the family, the dreams of every child she loved. She carried it all with a quiet, unshakeable strength that we will spend the rest of our lives trying to honour.
One day, without saying it out loud to each other, we both felt the same thing. It was time to carry something too.
